[05] – TSIKY WATCHED IT

Watch something you’ll enjoy to talk about later; long format or short, documentaries, independent or blockbuster.

Un prophète by Jacques Audiard
Un prophète" was chosen to represent France at the Oscars! And for good reasons, indeed, by depicting the penitentiary world, Audiard transcends, with a complex, disturbing and generous movie. When Malik, the lead character, enters prison, he is a little rootless and illiterate 19-year-old thug at the mercy of penitentiary violence. When he leaves, alive, safe and sound, he is a grown man with a solid network and a better understanding of humanity. There you have it, a life story about education, Audiard's way, tinted with a pleasant and anarchistic bitterness: the prison as the school of life in an unfair and violent society.
